Thorough
Examination.
Whether you own, lease
or hire a forklift, operators are legally obliged to ensure that their
truck holds a valid Report of Thorough Examination. The
only exceptions are brand new trucks, although these are subject to
Thorough Examination within a year of their acquisitionThorough Examination has been likened
to a strict MoT test and it is required under
two pieces of Health and Safety legislation, LOLER 98 -
which covers lifting components and PUWER 98 - dealing with
all other safety-related items, such as brakes, steering and tyres.
Failing to comply can
have serious consequences resulting in prosecution, invalidation of your insurance
or, worst of all, a serious accident due to faulty equipment.
A Thorough Examination is required at least every 12 months but depending
on the application, intensity of use and nature of any attachments, the
regulations may require this interval to be reduced to 6 or even 4
months. The person carrying out the Thorough Examination determines the
appropriate interval.
